Lewis L Low, M.D. F.C.C.M., is a physician development coach with 35 years of experience as a practicing intensivist and healthcare executive, including eight and a half years as senior vice president and chief medical officer of Legacy Health, an eight-hospital system in Portland, Oregon. He currently holds an appointment as a clinical associate professor of medicine with Washington State University. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Low attended St Louis University School of Medicine, completed an Internal Medicine residency at Letterman Army Medical Center, in San Francisco, and received fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, DC. He is Board Certified in Critical Care Medicine. Before arriving in Portland in 2003, Dr. Low served as the medical director of critical care medicine at St. Francis Medical Center and Kuakini Medical Center, both in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was assistant professor of medicine and surgery at the University of Hawaii. Prior to that, he served in the United States Army, which included the role of chief of critical care medicine and medical director of respiratory care, at Madigan Army Medical Center, at Fort Lewis, Washington. At Legacy, he has previously held the position of clinical vice president and was responsible for hospitalists, intensivists, and other medical specialties for Legacy Medical Group. Dr. Low has received nine teacher of the year awards, is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society, was awarded the Presidential Citation from the Medical Society of Metropolitan Portland, and holds the Meritorious Service, Humanitarian Service, and National Defense Medals, among others. He has published fifteen articles in scientific journals and books and is a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine.
