Alexis serves as the Chair of the American Health Law Association’s Medical Staff Credentialing Peer Review Practice Group and Editor of Polsinelli’s quarterly Med Staff Newsletter. Alexis handles matters including (i) advising peer review committees on quality of care, competence, conduct, behavior and wellness issues concerning physicians, nurses and advance practice professionals; (ii) guiding medical staff committees through the investigation and hearing process; (iii) counseling health care entities regarding reports to the National Practitioner Data Bank and state licensing boards; (iv) advising health care entities about their bylaws, policies and procedures; (v) representing Medical Executive Committees at mediation and peer review hearings
Representing health care clients in complex commercial litigation cases and at arbitration; and (vi) helping facilities implement shared credentialing and information sharing policies and procedures.
Alexis routinely presents on a variety of topics including the National Practitioner Data Bank, physician and nurse peer review and Board member duties and responsibilities at client locations throughout the country. Presentations are offered as a client benefit and provide in-house teams the opportunity to hear information relevant to their businesses and industries. Alexis also presents among her peers, including webinars regarding mediation in peer review and impaired practitioners for the American Health Law Association (AHLA) and before the Dallas Bar Association Health Law Section regarding the heightened protections given to mental health records. Alexis has presented at multiple AHLA Annual Conferences and the AHLA Fundamentals program. She has also presented at the National Association of Medical Staff Services Annual Conference, along with several state and local chapter meetings.
AHLA has published Alexis’s articles addressing the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) Guidebook, mediation in peer review, and addressing complaints of sexual harassment through medical staff peer review.
