Session Description: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) is the leading not-for-profit organization responsible for the creation of standards overseeing physician and medical specialist certification in the United States. Dedicated to improving the quality of care to the patients, families and communities they serve, the 24 ABMS Member Boards’ leadership and public members develop professional standards and programs of assessment to certify physicians and medical specialists. More than 940,000 physicians and medical specialists are certified by one or more of the ABMS Member Boards in one or more of the 40 specialties and 88 subspecialties.
This session will take an in-depth look at the evolving ABMS Standards for Continuing Certification, what program changes will impact the Managed Service Provider (MSP) community, enhancements to the Member Boards’ processes of evaluating clinicians including changes to the physician profile and new information to share with patients and their families. Included in the presentation will be a look at ABMS advocacy and outreach efforts. These efforts support specialty medicine, protect the physician and medical specialist community training and practice needs, as well as patient access to specialty care.
The session will also explore what constitutes a certifying organization and offer key considerations when evaluating a credentialing provider.
