Session Description: The topic of provider burnout and wellness, particularly among physicians, has received significant attention over the past few years. Studies show nearly 50% of physicians struggle with mental health and burnout. Consequently, health care organizations have an important stake in making meaningful progress to physician burnout. Medical Staffs have tackled the issue through part-time and ad hoc wellness initiatives are largely reactionary and without comprehensive and lasting effect. Recent federal legislation now makes it possible for hospitals and other organizations to establish comprehensive wellness programs for all providers. This session will explore the fundamentals of provider wellness programs, the role of organized medical staffs in address wellness, and how to navigate recent federal legislation in support of these activities.
